Drinking Water Research: Biosolutions LLC

Presentation: What's Clean Water?

What it was: An independent research project through Biosolutions LLC comparing the effectiveness of basic versus extensive residential water treatment systems, born out of the fact that over 4 million Ohioans rely on groundwater wells for drinking water.

What it covered:

  • Collecting groundwater and post-treatment sink water samples from two residential clients with different treatment setups (Client A: a basic filter and softener; Client B: an extensive multi-stage system with carbon filtration, UV light, and reverse osmosis)

  • Lab testing for pH, conductivity, iron, hardness, turbidity, and alkalinity

  • Calculating and comparing total treatment efficiency between the two systems

  • Presenting findings and conclusions to a variety of boards and events

My role: I independently designed, performed, and analyzed the entire study, from sample collection through lab testing to final presentation.

Outcome: The basic system removed about 74% of measured impurities, while the extensive system reached about 80%, showing a real but moderate efficiency gain from added treatment stages, information useful for homeowners deciding how much filtration their well water actually needs.
